Alexander Carmichael Black Reagan

Alexander Carmichael Black Reagan was born on February 14, 1819 in Blount County, Tennessee to Ahimaaz Reagan and Rebecca Black.  As a teenager, he moved to Itawamba County, Mississippi with his parents.  He was the youngest of thirteen and apparently was the only one still living at home.  Several married siblings settled nearby.  By 1837, he had acquired a land grant.  He married Rhoda Woods on February 11, 1841, and they had five sons: James W. was born December 19, 1841, Ahimaaz was born January 1, 1844, William was born on August 28, 1846, Lafayette was born on January 4, 1850, and Harvey P. was born on August 2, 1852.  While in Itawamba County, A. C. B. operated a tannery on Tanyard Creek that he had bought from his father-in-law, James Woods, and also served as a Justice of the Peace performing several recorded marriages. Records also indicate that he was a member of the Church of Christ.  After the death of Rhoda in 1853, A. C. B. sold his land in Mississippi and moved the family to Texas.

In 1854, A. C. B. was in Cass County, Texas where he married Nancy Daniels on September 13.  No children were born to this marriage.  By 1860, the family was living at Bald Prairie in Robertson County.  Nancy died sometime after the 1860 census.

During the Civil War, A. C. B. served in the Robertson County Home Guard.  He married Talitha C. Whitley circa 1864, and their first child, California, was born in September, 1865.  During Reconstruction, the family relocated to Barry County, Missouri where the next three children were born.  Missouri was born in 1868, Benjamin Franklin “Frank” was born on July 4, 1870 and Neomi Jane was born in 1872.  The 1870 Barry County census shows two of A. C. B.’s older children, Lafayette (age 21) and Harvey P. (age 19), living with A. C. B. and Talitha.  Another son, Ahimaaz (age 26), and his wife were living nearby.

A. C. B. and Talitha were living in Limestone County, Texas in 1874 when their youngest son, Joseph Lee, was born on May 27.  A. C. B. died in August, 1888, and Talitha died on December 26, 1909.  Both are buried in the Masters Cemetery in Limestone County.  Their graves are not marked.
